Effect of Sponsorship

For this blog, I will discuss the effect of sponsorship for an event or TV show. The TV show that I will select is the Fox NFL Sunday game coverage. My analysis will be provided in the form of responses to the following questions:

Question 1: Who were the sponsors?
The primary sponsor for Fox’s pregame show is Ford Motor Company, specifically the Ford F150 truck.  During the breaks for the game broadcasts, sponsors this year have included DirecTV, Motorola, Visa, and Lowes.

Question 2: Did their sponsorship of the event affect your perception of them? If so, how?
I would not say that their sponsorships of NFL games affected my perception of them or their products. As a consumer, I form my opinion of products or companies based on the following criteria: quality of product, best value, and customer service. When it comes to spending money, I am going to base my decisions on my past experience or word of mouth before I rely on advertisement for a sporting event. Granted, I do get ideas from the sponsorship ads, but I generally base my perception of companies on the quality of products they produce; the customer service they provide, before and after the purchase; and their reputation amongst friends, family, and co-workers.

Question 3: What other companies would have been a “good fit” for sponsoring the event (or show)? Why?
I feel companies that are similar to the current sponsors mentioned above, would be a good fit (i.e., Home Depot, Nokia, GMC). Additionally, companies that sell tools and do-it-yourself products like Sears or Menards. Since most of the NFL’s audience is male viewers, companies that can cater to the interests of men would make ideal sponsors. Other potential sponsors that would be a “good fit” are RadioShack, Best Buy, and Ace Hardware Store. Furthermore, these companies could also market to the female portion of NFL viewers. Being able to successfully market to the entire Fox NFL Sunday audience validates these companies discussed as viable sponsors.

  1. Can you think of an example or a particularly good or bad ad in terms of fit? (can be any type of event)

  2. I can agree with the question 3. Not to mention some of the beer manufactures and red bull would probably be some good fit sponsors as well.
